Other Club Info

Club Name: Cinemania!

Purpose Statement:

Cinemania! Is an RPI club dedicated to the real-time, personal discussion of film or any other visual media.

Does your club intend to travel?

No.

Will you have open enrollment?

Yes.

Will membership be limited by one of the following: academic standing, race, religion, gender, political beliefs?

No.

Affiliated with outside organizations?

No.

Question and Answer:

1. Describe the types of activities your club will participate in / hold.

Cinemania! activities occur during “general club meetings”, open for anyone to attend, at the club’s discretion (private meetings may be desired). These include, but are not limited to, the discussion of film, television, internet memes, podcasts etc. Non-visual media is open to discussion, but visual media takes priority. Some media may be screened during meetings, but copyrighted material (i.e. most film) is not necessarily provided, and is left for the participants to view individually, before discussion.

2. Will your club need an instructor? If so, please explain.

No.

3. Will your club need equipment? If so please explain type of equipment and how it will be used.

Yes. A projector, projector screen, and speakers (the larger, the better) connected to a computer with internet access and DVD playing capability.
This is for the displaying of the meeting agenda, general club business and proposals, and visual media, for immediate follow-up discussion.

4. How often will you hold meetings? What will those meetings require? (i.e. space, equipment, etc.)

Meetings will occur 1-2 times a week (tentatively); meetings will require the equipment mentioned above, as well as ample space for their use (the larger, the better).

5. Have you held any activities as a club? If so, how many attended? How was it advertised?

There have been meetings or advertisements yet.

6. How do you see your members benefitting from joining your club? How will you benefit the non-members?

Members will benefit through club activities, and have the potential to have a hand in shaping them. Every screening is a new opportunity for exposure to new works and forms of visual media, and every discussion is an opportunity to hear a new point of view.
Non members are allowed to attend club meetings at the club’s discretion, and receive the same benefits, save that they do not have the oppurtunity to influence club decisions.
More largely, every attendee of a Cinemania! meeting brings with them new ideas and visual experiences upon leaving; these, they are free to share with the world.

7. Will your club need funding? Please explain what it will be used for?

Cinemania! will not need funding, unless it is charged for its aforementioned use of RPI equipment and space.
One other exception is if Cinemania! deems it necessary to purchase a license for the public showing of a copyrighted work. Under normal circumstances, if a copyrighted work is to be discussed, it is left up to individual attendees to view it privately, and licensing money is not vital.

8. Who will be the officers of the club? Is there a structure to the club?

Cinemania! club structure is detailed on our blog: rpicinemania.blogspot.com.
Officers are a voting body, with other powers, appointed by a “premier”. Elements of the Cinemania! club structure include:

RULES: club power, email rule, meeting procedure

POSITIONS: chairperson, premier, officer, member
